Grace Kim is an eighth grade honor student at Millburn Middle
School. She started playing the piano at the age of four and a half
and has been studying piano for eight years. Grace is a student of
Sondra Tammam of Westfield. She is the winner of multiple awards from
various competitions. Graces musical achievements include four
years of outstanding performance at the New Jersey Music Educators
Associations (MEA) annual auditions. This year, she won second
place in the concerto competition and in 2001 was a third place winner.
In 2000, she won first place in concerto and second in their solo
competition for two consecutive years. Grace was a third place winner
two years in a row at the New York Music Competition, which is sponsored
by The Korea Central Daily newspaper. She was a winner of the Cecilian
Annual Young Artist Piano Competition in 1999 and won honorable mention
for her piano solo in 2000. At the New Jersey Music Teachers
Association competition, Grace won third place in 2000 and second
place in 1996. During the past three years, Grace was a winner at
the Piano Teachers Society of America (PTSA) Multi-Talent Search category.
At the winners recital, she played a violin solo and accompanied
her brother on the cello. Also, for three consecutive years she won
Honorable Mention at the Piano Teachers Congress of New York. Grace
was a finalist in the concerto competition of the Young Pianist Competition
of New Jersey in 2001 and 2000 and won second place in their 1999
solo division. Grace performed nine times in Weill Recital Hall at
Carnegie, and also played in winners recitals at Cami Hall and
Steinway Hall in New York. Aside from playing the piano, Grace plays
violin and oboe. She studies the violin with Miss Kim who teaches
in Warren and has won the Young Artist Competition for Strings in
2000. Currently, she is Concert Mistress of the New Jersey Youth Symphony
(NJYS) and will be performing in their winter concert this December.
In addition, Grace has been selected as a recipient of the Bergen
Scholarship Audition for violin at the NJYS. Besides playing instruments,
Grace enjoys playing tennis and volleyball with her brother. Graces
future plans are to become a lawyer and help people in need.
Grace Kim was a winner in the 2002 Fourth Annual Andrew De Grado Piano
Competition in the soloist category with her performance of Images
Book I, No. 3 Movement by Debussy.
