Andrew Nguyen
Andrew Nguyen is a senior
at Lenape High School. He started piano lessons at the age of five with
Nancy Dodd in Cinnaminson, New Jersey. Currently, he studies piano with
Veda Zuponcic of Cherry Hill.
Andrew is a grand-prize winner of the AMSA World Piano Competition, a
three-time past winner of the Steinway Society Scholarship Competition,
a four-time winner of the Young Artist International Piano Competition,
and a four-time winner of the NJMTA Young Artists Piano Competition. Also,
he is a winner of the Lansdowne Symphony Piano Competition, the Bartok-Kabalevsky
International Piano Competition, and the Philadelphia Orchestras
Albert Greenfield Student Competition. Andrew has performed in Carnegie
Hall and the Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts, in addition to numerous
recitals in New Jersey, New York, and Washington, D.C. He made his orchestral
debut with the Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra in March 1998. Andrew performed
with the Philadelphia Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Wolfgang Sawallisch
in September 1999. In 2000, he performed with the Rowan Youth Orchestra
after winning the NJMTA Concerto Competition.
Andrew is a capable high school student who involves himself both academically
and in extracurricular activities. He enjoys reading, playing computer
games, and listening to music. He has been teaching piano privately since
the beginning of this year. In April of this year, he earned a 1600 on
his SATs. Career-wise, Andrew is interested in aerospace engineering
and financial analysis, though he plans on pursuing the study of music
in college.
Andrew Nguyen is a winner in the 2003 Fifth Annual Andrew De Grado Piano
Competition in the soloist category with his performance of the Barcarolle,
Op. 60 by Chopin.
